Standard Chartered Bank SmartTravel Card is a prepaid Foreign Currency card that makes your foreign trip totally hassle-free and convenient. You can load this Prepaid Card with Foreign Currency (USD, EURO, GBP) in India and use it to withdraw cash in the local currency from over 8,50,000 MasterCard ATMs and shop at over 13 million merchant establishments accepting MasterCard Flag cards.
The card is sold through Standard Chartered Bank branches and select Money Changers. This is the only Gold Card in the country, with the concomitant peerless benefits and free access to lounges in International Airports in India & advanced account management features.

Q. How does this Prepaid Card work?
The Standard Chartered Bank SmartTravel Prepaid Card can be used as a Debit Card for effecting transactions at ATMs & POS terminals.
You can load a Prepaid Card by funds at the time of purchase of the card. After loading, you can use the card for cash withdrawal or for shopping at merchant outlets. With each transaction the remaining value on the card would be decreased.
You can continue to use your card as long as some funds remain on the card account. You can recharge the card with more funds before your next trip when you return to India.
Q. How is a SmartTravel Card better than a normal International Debit Card?
An International Debit Card incurs certain charges for ATM & POS transactions in international locations. However a SmartTravel Prepaid Card will be treated as a local card in the designated country thereby incurring no charges for ATM & POS transactions e.g. a USD denominated Prepaid Card will be treated as a local card in the US but will be treated as an international card in other locations*.

Q. Who are eligible to get a Standard Chartered Bank SmartTravel Card?
All citizens of India, subject to their furnishing the requisite documents, are eligible for the card.
Q. How do I get a Standard Chartered Bank SmartTravel Card?
You can walk into any of the select Standard Chartered Bank branches to get a SmartTravel Card. Kindly call our Phone Banking desk to get a list of branches offering this facility. Going forward this facility will be available at authorized dealers' outlets, travel agents and select corporates.
Q. When can I start using the card?
A non-personalised card is given over-the-counter. In case of cash deposit for loading the card, the card is activated instantly. In case of cheque deposit, the card will be activated after the realisation of funds, which typically takes 3-4 days.
Q. Do I have to be a customer of the bank to avail of this product?
No, there is no prior relationship that you need to have with the Bank to purchase this card.
Q. What documents are needed during purchase/ recharge?
During purchase of a Standard Chartered Bank's SmartTravel Card you need to provide the following:
- Passport
- A2 form (if load amount exceeds $5000)
- Visa (not mandatory)
- PAN Card (Form 60, in case you do not have a PAN number)
You would also need to fill up and sign the Standard Chartered Bank SmartTravel Card reload form. The same documents need to be provided at the time of reload. In case of a relative or friend depositing cash on behalf of the cardholder, a letter of authority from the customer may also be required.
Q. Can I buy more than one Standard Chartered Bank SmartTravel Card?
No, each customer is entitled to only one card at a time.
Q.Can I transact in currencies other than the base currency using the SmartTravel Card?
Yes, your Standard Chartered Bank SmartTravel Card allows you to transact (cash withdrawal and point-of-sale transaction) in any local currency*.
For any currency other than the base currency, there will be an exchange rate which will be applied. It is to be noted that in the destination country (i.e. USA for an USD denominated card, England for a GBP denominated card) there is no exchange rate applicable for transactions. However for transactions in any other currency, MasterCard exchange rates will apply.

Q. How do I withdraw cash from an ATM using the Standard Chartered Bank SmartTravel Card?
To withdraw cash from an ATM, just check for MasterCard, Cirrus or Maestro logos on the ATM. In case of presence of the logo, insert the card in the card slot of the ATM as instructed on the ATM panel. The ATM would prompt for the PIN number. Please enter the ATM PIN of your card. Once your ATM PIN is validated, it would prompt you to enter the amount of cash requested. Enter the amount of cash you would need. In case your Standard Chartered Bank SmartTravel Card has the funds requested by you, it would be dispensed.
Q. Is there a limit to the maximum amount of cash that I can withdraw?
Standard Chartered Bank does not restrict the amount of cash that can be withdrawn during a single transaction. Some ATM acquirers, however, set transaction limits. In such a case, the card may be used at a nearby ATM to withdraw more cash.
Q. Can an ATM be used to check the amount of funds remaining on the Standard Chartered Bank SmartTravel Card?
Balance enquiry is possible on MasterCard-enabled ATMs. However, there will be a nominal charge for the same (please refer to the schedule of service charges).
Q. Are there any charges for using a MasterCard ATM?

Q. Does an ATM receipt show the amount withdrawn and the balance available?
Most ATMs have the facility to check the balance on a card in the local currency*.

Q. What if I forget the ATM PIN of the Standard Chartered Bank SmartTravel Card?
You can call our Phone Banking desk to hotlist your card or reset your ATM PIN/ Internet Banking PIN online. Your ATM PIN can also be reset online by logging into the prepaid site using your 16 digit card number as the user id and the Internet Banking PIN as the password.
Q. Will the ATM display foreign exchange rates that one can use before withdrawing cash?
No. Post withdrawal of cash, with the figures for amount withdrawn and balance available, it is possible to arrive at the exchange rate charged.
Q. What exchange rates are applied when a transaction is made on the card?
Since the card is loaded with dollars, there is no exchange rate applicable for transactions in USD. However, for non USD transaction, MasterCard wholesale rates apply. These rates are generally more favourable than the rates offered by authorised dealer.
Q. Will I get a periodic statement for my card account?
The statement for the card account will be available online. Just log into the prepaid website using your card number as the user Id and the Internet Banking PIN as the password and get a detailed list of transactions effected through the card. However no paper statements shall be mailed to your residential address.
Q. What are the details contained in the online statement summary?
The online statement will contain all details of transactions effected through the card and the balance thereof. It is possible to closely monitor card transactions
Q. What forex rates are charged at the time of purchase?
The card can be bought at the ongoing forex rate of that day offered by the Standard Chartered Bank branch or the authorised dealers from where you buy the product. The Forex rates are similar to the rates charged for Travellers' Cheques.

Your funds will be refunded at the existing spot rates on the given day.
Q. How can I load my card?
Following are some of the ways you can upload funds on your account:
- Direct Debit to your transaction account: Funds can be loaded on the card by directly debiting the transaction account you may hold with Standard Chartered Bank. Card is activated instantly
- Cash Deposit: You can also deposit cash at one of the select Standard Chartered Bank branches to upload your card.
- Cheque: You can upload funds on your card by depositing a cheque (from another bank). The card gets activated upon realisation of funds which typically takes 3-4 days.
Q.How can I confirm if my card has been loaded?
You would get an SMS confirmation shortly after your card is loaded or reloaded or refunded. You may also call up the Standard Chartered Bank Phone Banking desk to know your balance. You can login into the website and check the transactions anytime. You can also check the balance on your card in any of our ATMs.

Q. Can a Standard Chartered Bank SmartTravel Card be recharged over the phone or from abroad?
Standard Chartered Bank SmartTravel Card cannot be recharged over the phone as a certain set of documents is required for the same. However if the cardholder is abroad, he can empower his relatives to recharge his card by either faxing across a letter of authorisation or through a Power of Attorney.
Q. Can one retain the foreign exchange on the Standard Chartered Bank SmartTravel Card after returning to India?
Your Standard Chartered Bank SmartTravel Card is valid for 2 years. Funds can be retained in the pre-funded account for the given period. However, balances in excess of $2000 cannot be retained as dollar float as per FEMA regulations. Upon the lapsing of the validity period, the balance amount will be couriered across to the address captured in the system by PO. Refund, however, shall happen only 30 days after return.
Q. How fast can I get my replacement card?
The replacement card will be couriered to your residential address within a week's time. Your relative/ friend will have to courier it across to your off-site location. This is done to protect you from potential fraudsters.
Q. How can I apply for a refund on the card?
You can apply for a refund at any of the select Standard Chartered Bank branches, 30 days after returning from your business trip/ holiday abroad.
Q. How is the Standard Chartered Bank SmartTravel Card secured against unauthorised cash withdrawals from ATMs?
To withdraw cash from a MasterCard ATM using the Prepaid Card, you need the confidential ATM PIN which is available only to you. The ATM PIN is issued to you at the time of card purchase. Remember the 4 digit PIN number and destroy the document. Do not write it on the card. Your card would be blocked after 4 unsuccessful PIN attempts. This ensures that anyone having access to your card cannot use the card.
Q. What should one do to prevent unauthorised usage in case I lose the card?
The card comes with zero lost card liability after its loss being reported. Immediately report the loss of the card by calling our Phone Banking desk. We would block the card from any further usage. A replacement card would be sent to the address captured on the system.
Q. What happens if my card is fraudulently used for POS/ ATM transactions?
Kindly contact our Phone Banking desk to deactivate the card immediately. Simultaneously a fresh request for a new card can also be placed through the same.
Q. Who bears the liability for the amount used fraudulently by an unauthorised person(s)?
Ans. The card comes with zero lost card liability after its loss being reported. Immediately report the loss of the card by calling our Phone Banking desk. We would block the card from any further usage.
